Video Games
A video game is a game that involved alot of interaction from the user, which creates visual feedback within a video device. The word video is used in the term that the game is produced through any display system. The electronic devices on which games are played on are known as platforms. A typical example of these are personal computers or video games consoles such as Xbox 360. They range in many different sizes and capabilities, from large computers to small discrete handheld devices.
Games controllers are the input device for video games and are used to manipulate the actions taken within the game. An example of early controllers would be just a typical joystick and a button whereas nowadays there are many various buttons and a few joysticks.
Next generation video games consoles such as Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, boast a number of new capabilities aswell as typical video gaming. They use convergence as a major selling point within their systems. For example, PS3 contains a new blu-ray player which can play your favourite movies at a higher definition than standard DVDs.

Task 1 cont..

Compatibility

How well something usually technology can communicate with another something.
e.g. a dvd disc being is compatible with a dvd player but not a hi-fi.

Storage

In terms of media technology, storage refers to computer components such as a harddrive. This is its memory device.
e.g. a ipod can have a 30gb storage meaning it can hold alot of songs.

Miniaturisation
This is the way technology is continuing to develop in the trend of becoming smaller and more convinient.
e.g. mobile phones have decreased massively in size since they originally came out.

Digital
Digital systems use discrete values to represent the information it is showing. The word 'digital' is most commonly used in terms of computing and electronics to show real-world information through binary numeric data.
e.g. digital photography in magazines.

Connectivity
Is the ability of data transportation between two end points.
e.g. bluetooth connection between mobile phones.

Synergy
Synergy is two or more agents, in terms of media new technology, acting together to create a greater effect than if they were seperate, helping them market and aid eachother better.
e.g. film and computer industries helping market eachother.

Task 1

Interactivity
This is relates to new media technology as it is how humans and animals communicate and understand messages and information through newer and more convinient ways.
e.g. the way ipods are becoming easy to interact with using a new touchscreen to use.

Portability
This term is used in how well and how information can be transported and stored onto different systems and media technology from one location to another.
e.g. how music files can be transferred from the computer(itunes) to an ipod shows portability.

Convergence
This is how seperate communication industries such as computer, film and broadcasting have been able to merge together through advances in technology.
e.g. being able to watch films through a computer.
